ICE ARRESTS SPANISH-LANGUAGE JOURNALIST IN NASHVILLE — PRESS FREEDOM ADVOCATES SOUND ALARM

A Spanish-language journalist in Nashville has been arrested and detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), sparking concern among press freedom organizations and immigration advocates. The reporter, Estefany Rodriguez Florez of Nashville Noticias, was taken into custody earlier this week during an enforcement operation.

According to court filings and her legal team, Rodriguez had been living in the United States for several years, held a valid work permit, and had applied for asylum and permanent residency. Lawyers claim she was not shown a warrant at the time of the arrest and argue the detention may violate due process protections.

Press freedom groups warn the arrest could create a chilling effect for immigrant journalists covering immigration enforcement. ICE officials, however, say the arrest relates to alleged immigration violations and insist the case will move through the legal process in federal court.
